The most fundamental building block of any organization is Data; data is critical to any organization’s success. Getting data governance and quality right, can significantly improve the quality of sales planning and result in an intelligent data-driven territory allocation process. On the contrary, poor data quality and loose governance models often lead to laborious territory planning cycles, sub-optimal sales rep to account mapping and poor customer experience. Poor data quality could also result in an over- or under-allocation of a sales person’s territory and can result in poor customer experience and even attrition. On the operational side, this could result in poor forecasting, inefficient revenue attribution, tedious reporting exercises (due to lack of data modeling), and a significantly delayed root cause analysis when companies miss financial goals.

Who/What inspired you to research on this topic and over what time?
My experience in the space of sales go-to-market planning, business operations and analytics. I have always been passionate about data-driven storytelling and a firm believer that organizations should extract the full potential of their underlying business data. First get the data quality right, extract insights out of it and then scale for the future by building intel on top of this data.
Any personal experience or suggestions or ideas for future works in this field?
My vision is to help build a playbook to evangelize a Business Operations function to the world and its potential to fuel an organization’s success.
The goal is to instill in the organizations a sense of accountability through the mechanisms of:
● Strategic planning by identifying key business drivers and enabling data-driven decision-making with the objective to facilitate the prioritization of initiatives and goals
● Providing business visibility and insights that drive decision making across departments and stakeholders
● Streamlining, standardizing, and documenting processes for each area of the business with a goal of minimizing operational debt.
